Song writers in the round is a concept not often seen in Australia, in fact it is not seen much out of the USA, where it is huge. In places like Nashville they are are extremely popular both with musicians and audiences. Both are drawn are drawn to its relaxed atmosphere created through a blend of music and chat.
In simple terms it is a group of singer songwriters sitting in a circle taking turns to play their own music ( or songs that have influenced them ) to the rest of the group. The group then has the option to join in with instruments or backing vocals or just simply listen. Now obviously where an audience is involved this is not very engaging, so we form a curved line on stage facing outwards. As we say its the best seat in the house.
For those that have not experienced a “Songwriters In The Round “ , just imagine having three songwriters, musicians visit your home. They sit down, plug in and just start to share their stories, their views on life , love and laughter with music. Its purposely unrehearsed, unscripted and raw. We dont want it to be any other way. Its not a duo, a trio or a band. Its three solo shows on stage at once. As we like to say.

The major difference however between here and the USA shows is variety. In the USA a majority of the songwriters shows centre around country music. Our show is different we present a variety of genres including pop, soul, blues, country, folk, old time, rock and even the odd silly song, thrown in to keep things interesting. All within the Songs From The Porch Of Life theme.
We can do this through a careful blend of musicians and instruments on stage combined with an unscripted show. Yes we do have a basic run sheet but we rarely stick to it. We are driven by the mood of the night. This means no two shows are ever the same.
