Wharves

Verse 1

Men sitting in circles

Fixing nets, telling yarns

Sea gnarled faces

Wiry sun bleached arms

Verse 2

Life drifts slowly past

In sepia, black and white

Sail, steam and diesel

All passed into night

Chorus 1

Wharves have been my home

Sea has been my wife

Building of bygone eras

Tell tales of my lives

Verse 3

Wharves can tell tales

Of romance and loves lost

Of bittersweet homecomings

And tearful sad farewells

Verse 4

Once great hubs

Filled with barges and trade

Bustling watery highways

Now lay waste

Chorus 1

Wharves have been my home

Sea has been my wife

Building of bygone eras

Tell tales of my lives

Verse 5

I now walk wooden pathways

Timber slowly decays

Sheds now apartments

Little memory of old ways

Chorus 1

Wharves have been my home

Sea has been my wife

Building of bygone eras

Tell tales of my lives
