Wheels On The Road

Verse 1

Wheels on the road

Ashtray overflowing

Cassette cranked up

On the bitumen rolling

Verse 2

Life was simpler

Way back then

Persons handshake

Was their pen

Verse 3

Business was conducted

Face to face

A smile and a joke

Not out of place

Verse 4

I would drive

Miles a day

Plying my wares

Earning my pay

Verse 5

Friendships were built

In this lonely life

Through stunning country

I would drive

Verse 6

Each small town

Had its character

Sometimes I stayed

For beer and chatter

Verse 7

People were honest

Generous with their time

Wheels on the road

A great time in my life

Verse 8

Now days no loyalty

No rapport built

Hand shakes worth nothing

No enjoyment felt

Verse 9

Cheapest price wins

Relationships count nothing

My desk is my car

With no wheels rolling
